My Story
Okay so its a pain and trying to find a solution to a computer problem is difficult when so many online posts says different things. Well I am still on Windows 10 and yes I right clicked on the desktop and it just didn’t work for such a long time and so I was left with no choice but to search for an answer. I came across some utter rubbish but eventually I found the answer and one that worked. I have no idea if this will work on windows 11 too.
Step By Step – How To Fix
First thing, I am not an expert so if you follow my advice please do not blame me if things go wrong as I can only tell you about my own experience.
First thing click your Start button and type in “regedit.” to find the “Registry Editor.” Click to run the editor.
At the top of the screen click File and Export and save to somewhere safe like an external disk drive in case anything goes wrong so you have a backup.
In the Registry Editor find the folder on the left pane. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and open it up to reveal a list of other folders.
Find the folder called Directory and open it up to reveal more folders.
Find the folder called Background and open it up to reveal more folders.
Find the folder called Shellex and open it up to reveal more folders.
Find the folder called ContextMenuHandlers and open it up to reveal more folders.
Notice the folders New and WorkFolders and leave them alone and do nothing with at all.
For all the other folders right click and delete.
Close the Registry Editor
Restart your computer which may take a little longer than usual to restart but don’t worry.
Upon restart check to see if this solved the problem, which it did for me and your right click function on the desktop should be faster than usual and now work fine.
Conclusion
Well this worked great for myself and I am very happy with the result. No issues or problems found after doing this simple task. I am not an expert with PC’s but I have been using them for most of my life but if this information does not work for you or causes you problems then be very careful what else you try as many online help guides can cause you a lot of problems. I read many posts and guides to solve this problem and many would have caused me big problems like wiping my whole PC and resetting everything. Thanks for reading.
