The Elder Scrolls/ Fallout

I was a young man when I first encountered The Elder Scrolls games. I was an addict from the off. Bethesda was my hero game makers. I was well into role playing games.

DaggerFall

The first game I played was Daggerfall which was released in 1996 and I was 20 years old and I was hooked from the off. The link is to the Fandom page for the game.

I loved the adventure, the graphics, gameplay and the dungeons especially which were scary with all the skeletons and Lich’s. The sound effects were chilling and it was awesome! The open ground to explore and the dungeon map was very cool. I was enjoying my gaming and was also playing games like fallout 1 and 2. Daggerfall was a dream to play at the time.

Redguard

This was a third person action adventure game I loved it so much. The graphics were fantastic. Released in 1998 it was perhaps one of the most under-rated games of all time. It is a shame that no more games were made in this style by Bethesda as this was certainly one of the best 3rd person adventures to date.

This game was different from Daggerfall and yet I loved it.

Morrowind

I was so exited about this game and it was so, so great. The atmosphere, the wind, the solid graphics and the gameplay was brilliant. This game was released in 2002 and like Daggerfall it wasn’t in the most popular bracket of games. I completely enjoyed the game with all the statistics and how you could define your character as you pleased. This was a true role playing game with an atmosphere no other game managed. The action and the magic was fantastic.

Oblivion

Along came Oblivion in 2006 and I was forced into buying a new PC just to play the game. I was so exited at the time and I loved it, however I was disappointed that the game had been dumbed down for consoles and that the game had turned into a more simple experience rather than been the stats based brilliant role playing game I believe it should have been. Don’t get me wrong I love the game still but I do feel it should have gone a different way. I had a great time and had a big session of playing using the efficient levelling method – here is a link to a guide about it - Oblivion:Efficient Leveling - The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages (UESP)

I loved the game but the dumbing down for consoles spoilt it for me.

Fallout 3/ New Vegas

When I found out that they were making a new fallout 3 game I was so happy but then when I found out it was not going to be like the other 2 and was not going to be isometric I was disappointed. I really enjoyed the game though and loved It just like I loved Oblivion. When New Vegas come along I just loved it until I was met with crashes and bugs and I never really recovered from that – I never completed this one.

Skyrim

Skyrim came along and it was amazing and the game became very popular, even if it was still dumbed down. I played it several times and I still play it now on and off. Released in 2011 its still going strong and certainly one of the best RPG’s of all time. I only bothered with the original with the steam workshop mods like the carry weight and improved graphics. Its fun although it feels a bit too slow paced for today’s standard.

Starfield

My PC isn’t good enough to play the game although I do like the look of it but I am certainly in no rush to upgrade just for the game which has had pretty negative reviews.

Conclusion

Bethesda, The Elder Scrolls And Fallout has been in my life since I was 20 years old and I am now 48 and I am sure it will still be in my life for years to come – when I get a new PC ready for The Elder Scrolls 6.
